Since the first reported case of the Wuhan Coronavirus, the outbreak has affected 14,557 people, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). While most cases of the Wuhan Coronavirus have affected populations in China, the virus has also affected people globally, including in the United States. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported that there are 11 confirmed cases in the United States and 121 cases that remain pending, which they are continuing to monitor closely.

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO, met with Chinese leaders to discuss the next steps in containing the spread of the virus, and WHO has made the containment of the Wuhan Coronavirus its highest priority. Chinese authorities have taken extraordinary measures to help stop the spread of the Wuhan coronavirus by issuing travel restrictions in over 12 cities, and airport screenings have expanded from 5 to 20 airports.

Although much remains unclear about the 2019-nCoV, the CDC has confirmed that signs of the virus include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath, and breathing difficulties. The most important thing you can do to reduce the chances of potential exposure to the Wuhan Coronavirus is to be proactive. The CDC urges people to engage in regular hand washing, covering your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, thoroughly cooking meat and eggs, and avoiding close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness.
