Solidifiers for Blood Spills

If you work in a hospital, or anywhere surgeries are performed, you should be aware of the dangers a blood spill can pose. Human blood can contain dangerous pathogens that have to be disinfected and disposed of properly. In addition to blood spills being harmful, they are regulated by OSHA. There is a stringent provision that details what to do in the event of a blood spill to prevent the transmission of bloodborne pathogens. Provision 1910.1030 explicitly states “All procedures involving blood or other potentially infectious materials shall be performed in such a manner as to minimize splashing, spraying, spattering, and generation of droplets of these substances.”

Red Z LogoWith this in mind, we can now look at the benefits of using a solidifier to make cleaning blood spills a breeze. A solidifier is poured onto the blood spill, and it solidifies the spill into a gel-like substance that can be easily collected. Safetec’s Red Z solidifies and deodorizes blood and other spills, so they can be easily scraped up and discarded. The solidification of blood minimizes the risk of splashing and spattering which helps you stay compliant with OSHA 1910.1030.

In addition to solidifiers being beneficial for clean-up, they are also helpful for disinfection purposes. Once the spill is solidified, it can be scraped up and disposed of according to your state regulations. Then the surface is clean enough to disinfect with a product like Safetec’s SaniZide Pro. Solidifiers lower the risk of reducing the effectiveness of a disinfectant because they remove all of the infected matter and leave only the infectious residue. Solidifiers make cleaning and disinfecting a breeze and keep you compliant with OSHA 1910.1030. Don’t take the risk, use a solidifier and disinfectant to keep your facility safe and compliant.
