Flu season may run from October to April each year; but germs have no season. They can be found nearly anywhere at any time.
When was the last time you washed your hands? Chances are, unless you are in a completely sterile environment, you have a new germ or two on your hands right now. The trouble is that you cannot see them. You do not know if you have the germs to cause the flu on your hands, Salmonella, Norovirus, MRSA or something even worse.
We already know that you can spread germs through a cough or a sneeze; however there are more ways to transmit germs than with these methods. You can spread germs also by interacting with surfaces that have high touch points. The next person(s) to touch the same surface you did within a short amount of time could pick up your germs.
Germs are also spread via hand to hand contact. If you shake a person's hand that has germs on it, those germs can transfer to your hands. Lastly, germs can spread through contaminated food and water.
Here is a video from the CDC which is a handwashing demonstration that will show you how handwashing can get rid of germs and chemicals that get on our hands every day.
